UMAMA is a Zulu word for Mother Earth. My family is originally from South Africa. My practice draws inspiration from grounding and connecting into the Earth.
You might have noticed the Elephant... I am drawn to many of the ancient scriptures and deities within them - each having valuable lessons for us, even in our modern world. My favourite is Ganesh, The Elephant God. Both the placer and remover of obstacles. You will see him in our logo and he pops up in all the spaces we teach.
I was fortunate to be introduced to Yoga at a very young age by my mother and have fond memories of practicing yoga with friends whilst still in primary school. I have been practicing Yoga for over 18 years. My practice has evolved through the challenges of injuries and motherhood and each of these has left me feeling grateful for and connected to my practice. The ancient philosophies and scriptures of Yoga have so much to offer in this modern world where we often feel disconnected and lacking energy and joy. I love being able to weave these ancient teachings into my classes offering students insights both on and off the mat.
I have a passion for women's health and exploring the feminine energy. I believe that supporting women in exploring this innate energy and finding creative ways to explore and express this is fundamental in healing our communities and planet. I also believe that the practice of yoga is an incredible tool to support Mother's through pregnancy, birth and motherhood. I have experienced first hand the profound impact a regular practice had in supporting me post birth and in the fullness of daily life - running a house hold, my own business and supporting my husband and children. Yoga has been an incredible tool for my children in building their self confidence and self awareness as well as being a really fun way to connect with them. This interest in yoga with my children led me to pursue further studies as a Kids Yoga Teacher and I have now been offering Kids Yoga in Early Learning Centres and Primary Schools for the last three years.
I have a background of over 15 years in business and marketing and a love in particular for website design and social media. This has supported me in launching the newest 'leg' of my business, INDABA Collective - Business Coaching & Support. I feel privledeged to work with some incredible organisations offering Marketing, Business and Social Media support. Some of these groups include The Australian Doula College, Bhakti Rose, Botannix Yoga Studio, Heart Space Manor, My Yoga Space and Sukha Mukha Yoga. I offer Business Coaching sessions to those in the wellness industry as well as packages to support you with your social media and marketing. In 2019 I launched 'The Business of Yoga One Day Workshop' with the first session being held at Sukha Mukha Yoga in Bronte, Sydney as part of their Yoga Teacher Training offering.
My family and I moved to The Wollondilly Shire in late 2017 from Sydney. I have deep gratitude to those who have supported me in establishing my practice and business in the shire. Yoga has always been a great way to connect and after our move it has supported me in building our community.
You can catch me for regular classes at My Yoga Space in Thirlmere. I also runs pop up workshops, retreats and immersions as well as private classes at various locations in The Wollondilly Shire including Kalinya Gardens and Picton Botanic Gardens.
I look forward to sharing a practice with you...
