UMAMA Yoga is owned by Raewyn Fernandez and has been offering Yoga through studios, schools and corporate workplaces since 2016. 

Raewyn uses her extensive training and in-depth understanding of the human body and psyche to teach and cultivate awareness of one’s own practice and life process. Offering classes open to all levels and catering for many different needs. 

Raewyn Fernandez has a passion for women's heath and working with children. This is at the root of many of her practices with an emphasis on supporting women through prenatal care, birthing and beyond. Raewyn works within preschools and playgroups to introduce the ancient concepts of yoga to children and their families.​

The soothing and contemplative practice of Yin Yoga invites us to balance this outward focus with an inward glance. In this gentle practice, we focus on the heart and large intestine meridians that run along the chest cavity as well as along the inner and outer arms. Consider this an invitation to slow down and surrender to the joy of the present as we travel towards the end of a challenging and unpredictable year.

Yin Yoga fuses the ancient practices of Chinese Medicine with Indian Yogic philosophy. Poses are passive and floor based encouraging you to find softness and stillness. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues throughout the body and promotes wellness, boosts immunity, prevents injuries and improves flexibility and range of motion. 

This class is suitable for all levels of experience, including beginners and prenatal students.

VIN I YIN

Wednesdays 9:30am - 10:45am

Vin/Yin is a marriage of the strong, yang Vinyasa Yoga with the receptive Yin Yoga. Active, yet grounding sun salutations and standing flows are offered in the first half of class to enliven the body and chase away any fatigue. The Yin half of class, on the other hand, offers passive, seated and supine poses that are held for anywhere from 2 – 7 minutes on each side. The Yin aspect helps to switch off fight-or-flight mode, promoting balance throughout the nervous system and allowing for a sense of peace and relaxation.
